The one-way valve makes incentive spirometry easier for both patients and doctors. The one-way valve ensures that patients inhale rather than exhale into the unit. The highly visible pistons and universal graphics (which indicate the correct inspiratory flow) help patients perform and monitor their own post-surgical breathing exercises without direct supervision.
